Looking for a Booksy alternative
Prices checked 14 October 2026
The difference in one line. Booksy is a marketplace you rent a place in. Booked In is a booking page that belongs to you. That one choice decides almost everything else — what it costs, whose client she is, and whose name is above your work.
What each one costs
| Booked In | Free, or £10 a month, or £24 for the top tier. No commission at any price, and no cut of your deposits. |
|---|---|
| Booksy | From £39.99 + VAT a month, and up to 30% of a new client's first booking if you use Boost to be promoted in the marketplace. |
Those are the published headline figures at the date above; both companies move their prices, so check Booksy's own pricing before you decide anything on the strength of this page.
The bit that costs more than the subscription
£39.99 against £10 is a difference of about £360 a year. The commission is usually the bigger number and it is the one people forget to add up.
A new client booking a £50 full set through a boosted marketplace listing can cost up to £15 of that £50. Four of those a month is £720 a year — on top of the subscription, and paid precisely when you least want to pay it, on the first visit, before she has decided whether she is coming back.
Booked In takes nothing from a booking, at any tier. If you take deposits, they go to your own bank, your own PayPal or your own payment link; the money never touches us, because we never hold it.
Whose client is she
On a marketplace, your client is browsing a directory. She sees your profile next to three other technicians within two miles, sorted by whatever the platform decided this week. You are paying rent on a shelf.
A Booked In page is at a link that is yours, in your colours, with your photographs and nobody else's work on it. There is no "similar nearby". If she came to book with you, she books with you.
Where Booksy is the better choice
This is a sales page and you should read it as one, so here is the honest side of it.
- Discovery. Booksy's marketplace genuinely does put you in front of people who have never heard of you. If you are opening in a new town with no following, that is worth real money and we do not offer it. We send you nobody; your clients come from your bio, your work and word of mouth.
- Breadth. Booksy is a mature product with point of sale, stock, staff management and payroll-adjacent tooling. If you run a salon with a team and a till, it does things we do not.
- Maturity. It has been running for years at scale. We are new, and new software has new problems.
If your business depends on being discovered by strangers, pay the commission — it is buying you something. If your clients already know your name and find you on Instagram, you are paying a finder's fee for people who were never found.
What you get here that you would not get there
- Patch tests enforced in the booking, not reminded about. A treatment that needs one cannot be booked by somebody who has not had a valid test in time, and booking the test records it. How that works, and what your insurer asks for.
- Deposits paid straight to you — your bank, your PayPal, your own link. We take no cut and never hold the money.
- Your client list is yours. Names, emails, visit history and private notes, exportable, not locked behind a subscription.
- Mobile or premises, properly. Say which way you work and the page either shows your address and the parking or collects hers.
Moving across
There is no import tool and we are not going to pretend otherwise. In practice people set the page up in an evening, put the new link in their bio, and let the old diary empty out over a few weeks rather than cutting over in a day. The free plan has unlimited bookings, so you can run both until you are sure.
